Hamupload!

Had this idea a while back, and when October came around I thought I might as well do it for BHE. Except part-way through the month a load of other stuff fell on top of me and basically, it's not done. :p

Hamupload is a free image/file sharing site, purely for Hamumu-related stuff. You don't have to register or anything, though if you do you can more easily keep track of things you've uploaded, and in future rename and delete them and stuff. No adverts, just lots of green things and half-finishedness.

Biggest hole in it is that file downloads are tricky and confusing. They still work, but you need to right-click the link, select 'save target as', and make sure you enter the right filename.

Hopefully it should be useful to someone at least, and I'll try to finish it soon... (Which admittedly usually means ages in my case.)

very cool indeed, theres obviously alot that needs working out, but a great start and a great BHE surprise!

Re: Hamupload!

I'm still working on this, because it was in such a bad state when I released it. :p

Biggest change: Now, if you upload a file and then think 'Hmmm, it'd be handy to register so I can keep track of it.' or 'Oh no! I forgot to log-in first!' then you don't need to worry. As long as you log-in or register before closing the browser window, the files and images will then be added to your account. :D

There's also now a bar across the top when you're not on the main page, which should make it easier to navigate.

Otherwise, I've mostly changed stuff that won't be noticeable, as it just involved putting code into a function instead of repeating it all over the place.

it would be cool to have embed codes, im not sure how realistic this is, but it would be cool.

For images? I've been meaning to do that but forgot. XD I'll add it now.

Also, I'm thinking of having it specialised for worlds and things. Any ideas?

Re: Hamupload!

How about a worlds category? you could submit unfinished worlds and people could comment and rate them and tell you things to fix before sending it in to WTG..

oh, well that deffinitely helps, although what i meant was the fancy stuff like:
Code:

<a href='http://img44.imageshack.us/i/blogsworth.jpg/'><img src='http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/402/blogsworth.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a><br/>
that a again this is Hamupload, and we dont really need that sort of thing

also, kerma's idea is good, but instead of a whole section for it, perhaps you can select what your file is (SWC world, miscelaneous, etc.)

Ah, right. I'll add that now if you think it would be useful.

Currently, it already checks the file type of what you upload, which is firstly how it knows if it's an image or not, but also why if you look here, Halloween.doc has a little Word icon. That's automatic, and I've told it to do the same for .dlw files.

What Kerma suggested is sort of what I was thinking of doing - you'd be able to specify 'this is a world for Supreme', and it would then appear in a worlds category. Actually, Kerma's idea is pretty good. Nice one Kerma!

How about, registered people could 'subscribe' to worlds, so that when the creator updates them (which would also be added in) they'd get an email about it. Then when the creator is happy and it's been uploaded to the Hamumu addons page, they could put a link up to direct people to the finished version.

I've thought about having a 'tag' system, a bit like the forum has really, except the tags would be more controlled. Each game/gamelet would have a tag, so then if you wanted to browse stuff related to NPC Quest, you'd just look at that category. And letting you give things you've uploaded descriptions, which I'll add now I think.

oh, :P thats pretty much what i meant as well, i guess i just didnt understand kerma's post correctly.

also, thumbs-up to all the other stuff i didnt quote!

EDIT:
just a random not that useful but maybe fun idea, you could perhaps add a hit counter to the images/files, so you can see how many people have looked at you file. once again, not really useful, but meh

Re: Hamupload!

Small update: You can now delete things you've uploaded, either from the page for that thing, or your My Stuff page. Only if you're registered, of course.

You can also enter a description when uploading a file that'll be displayed on its page, and accepts bold, italic and url BBcode tags. I haven't got around to making things like that editable yet, but should do soonish. Maybe. :p

Oh, and there's also a sneaky alert system so I get notified when someone uploads something, courtesy of AtkinsBot. But nobody else really needs to know that. :p

Re: Hamupload!

This site won't work for me for some reason. After registering, the "you have registered succesfully" page had an error near the top, when I try to upload something, I get the error "File didn't upload for some reason :/", and when I go to My Stuff, I get "Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /f5/hamupload/public/mystuff.php on line 74" for Images and "Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /f5/hamupload/public/mystuff.php on line 84" for Files :\

I had issues too - you need to log out then back in, that should fix it.

AtkinsSJ 11-11-2009 04:32 AM

Re: Hamupload!

Hmmm, I just registered a test user, and the error that appears shouldn't actually affect anything - it simply checks if someone already has that username, and I had the wrong variable name.

I'm having the weird 'you're logged-in except you're not' thing with it. No idea why. Even now that I've fixed that other error I get it. Hmph. Maybe just making registration not log you in would fix it.

Anyway, this should teach me not to reuse code I wrote ages ago when I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Plus the email is currently confusing. *Fixes it a bit*

Update!
Noticed that Blackduck had uploaded his swf file, so I quickly got Hamupload to display the flash file on its page, as seen here.

I think I'll finally get around to making it display text files now.

B-b-b-b-bBug Report!

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8229/bugreportx.jpg
its not letting me view my stuff!

EDIT: i had to re-log-in and it worked, this is still a bit of a bug though, so I'll keep the picture, perhaps a "you need to log-in to view your uploads" message or something?

AtkinsSJ 11-18-2009 11:54 AM

Re: Hamupload!

...Oops, I thought I'd already fixed that. Apparently not.

EDIT: Wait, yes I have fixed it! Except... ah, yeah, that link still displays...

That error is if you're not logged-in and haven't uploaded anything. Or if you uploaded stuff, then registered. I do need to fix it - I'd forgotten about the My Stuff link on every page.

This site really needs a new background. The functionality is great, but I think the appearance lets it down. If you want, I'll make a background and banner for you for free.

The Background is Simplistic- I personally like it. I don't want any flashy stuff taking my eyes off of what I (should) be viewing- and Lime Green and White is my favorite colour combination.

Re: Hamupload!

I came up with a simple white fade in the top left corner and blue for the rest. I'll show it to you if you want.
