Pseudomoderation (False Moderation), is where a person who is not a mod attempts to act like a mod. Examples include saying 'this post is rule breaking' or such things. It's confrontational and ineffectual, so most forums ban it. And if whatever you've quote is rule breaking, your post is also rule violating by proxy.

it's a combination of "pseudo-", "mod", and "-olicious". Mod as in moderator, pseudo as in not really, olicious as in very.

So it means strongly acting like a moderator when you aren't really.

Re: pseudomodolicious WHAT DOES IT MEAN

The biggest reason pseudomodding is bad is that, by its nature, it INSTANTLY breaks a forum rule, hypocritically. That is, a pseudomod post is never ever on topic - I suppose with the exception of a thread discussing forum rules, but even then it probably still is off-topic unless you happen to be discussing the person in question breaking rules. So it derails the conversation and makes the forum a worse place, which is the exact opposite of the reason you would do it. So don't do it, it has the opposite of the effect you want. You can always PM somebody if you think they need to know about a rule or something, but most likely they already know, and real moderators can manage the forum anyway.

"Grammar policing" is the same way. A post that does nothing but say "hey, you spelled that wrong", is totally off-topic, and not really very helpful even to the original poster. But if you REALLY want to let him know he spelled something wrong, send him a PM about it, so you're not cluttering up the forum.
