Q: How do I make sounds that are from other games?

A: Realy simple! Go to the start menu, go to all programs, go to accessories, go to entertainment and click sound recorder. Click files and then click open. Find the games "sound" folder and open the sound you want. Then save the sound into SwC's user folder.

Of course, sounds in other games will most likely be covered by that game's copyright, so in most cases you shouldn't do this as it would be quite illegal.

Yes, but it's not gonna be sold

That doesn't alter the fact that it is a copyright infringement, nor does Jamul want to have copyright violations on his for profit website.

What about many games and such with Mario (or other Nintendo characters) made by private person? Aren't they copyrighted?

Hammered 11-23-2005 07:55 AM

The fact that various individuals have chosen to violate copyright laws does not mean that it is a good idea to do so.

You shouldn't mess with it unless you made it.

At least it's not that illegal...

Jamul 11-23-2005 09:23 AM

No, pizza, it's THAT illegal. Often people get away with stealing this stuff for their noncommercial projects because they're beneath the notice of the company who makes it. But sometimes they get cracked down on. There's even a word for that- getting "Foxed", because 20th Century Fox took down a mod for Doom based on the movie Aliens way back when, and then proceeded to nail a bunch of other things of that nature.

If you put in the effort to create something, it's yours. If other people can use it without asking your permission, that kind of ruins the point of creating things, since you can't benefit from it. That is why copyright law is the way it is, to ensure that content creators are rewarded for their work, meaning they'll have an incentive to create. Otherwise, nobody would dedicate much time and effort to creating things, and our culture would be far weaker for it.

Anyway, the point is, it's illegal, and just because people do it doesn't mean it's legal or sorta legal. So create your own original work.

Okay, it's THAT illegal.

I'm presuming that using sounds from other Hamumu games in a Supreme world is OK, though.

Jamul 11-23-2005 06:57 PM

Unless they were extra special sounds that people shouldn't encounter without having the game, I don't mind that.
