Yerfdog Happyponygate Internet Contest!

Internet contest!? What's that?

Simple: you come up with a feature/event/thing for the player to do in Happyponygate that involves the internet. You need to bear the following things in mind:

1 - This is a single player game. No idea involving two people directly interacting face to face will ever happen (no multiplayer, no dueling arena, no card game you play against players, etc). Indirect interaction is fine, and kind of the whole point of having an internet connection anyway. Things like an auction house, a bulletin board, a graffiti wall that anyone can spray paint on, etc.

2 - Think simple! REALLY SIMPLE! This is a mammoth project already, I won't select something that adds another month or two to the development. But on the other hand, you don't know exactly what I'll think will be easy to do. You might be surprised. So don't be afraid to throw something out there that seems big too you. I just mention this rule because I don't want people suggesting "A trading card game like Magic: The Gathering, only with more cards!"

3 - This goes along with #1 a bit, but it needs to work well even if your connection is incredibly slow. So nothing 'real time'. It has to be fairly enjoyable and usable if the player will see "Loading..." for 3 seconds whenever it needs to get stuff from the internet.

4 - You've seen my suggestions: trading items, choosing monsters to unleash in other players' worlds, building levels that others can play, online chat. That should both give you some ideas, and let you know what's already been thought up!

5 - Give a whole lot of clear details! A vague thing like "You can trade items with other players" just isn't going to cut it (besides the fact that I came up with it first). Be totally specific and highly detailed about exactly what you're discussing. It could even help you win - I might find something I really like among your details even if the main idea isn't what I am after.

Rule-type things:

1 - Blah blah, I reserve the right to steal everything if I want.
2 - The contest is over on June 14th when results will be announced.
3 - Post your entries right here in this thread.
4 - Even moreso than previous contests, I reserve the right to not have any winner at all. There might be nothing that fits for me and that I can/feel like/want to implement!
5 - If there is a winner, they will get 50YB.
6 - There may be any number of Finalists as well, which get 10YB each. That number may be zero.

Maybe you can collect Pony Plushies?
Like there's different colors and you have to collect one of each color.
Then if you get all the plushies, something special happens...i guess

That's cool, but not Internet related.

I think Mumbly Jim's should be a lot like the SpisMall in SwC; the difference is that the number of things to buy wouldn't be fixed. Players could buy/download songs, pictures (cartoons or better, to make it worthwhile), commentary, short (or long) stories, crossword puzzles, maybe even short movies, etc. using Loonies.

EDIT: Okay, more specific. Bouapha would enter the store and head to the back, where the various aisles would be labeled, according to what you could download. Whenever you bump into a shelf along the aisle, a screen comes up, allowing you to pick what to purchase based upon what aisle you are in. (Aisle = catagory)

Anyways, then Bouapha heads to the checkout to finalize his goodies.

OH, and maybe there could be a ?badge? for getting a certain amount of store items. (What's the term Jamul uses?) *Goes to look it up* I guess I was thinking of skill... a shopping skill? Hmmm...

--------

Another idea has to do with spray painting: what if players could create skins for cars in a London Auto Body Shop, then upload them for other people to buy or use? You know how in some racing games they have an area that contains a layout of each side of the car, and one can use MS Paint-like tools (such as paint brush, bucket, pencil, eraser, etc.) to design a sweet looking ride? That's essentially what I was thinking of. I suppose it could also be more things to buy: enter the shop, select the skin, select the car you want to add it to, and bingo - You've got a vehicle with "The cake is a lie!" written in small text on both sides! Of course, the majority of people would simply create their own to save money, but I think the idea has some Net-potential somewhere.

Oh wow. Oh wow, wow, wow. I just got an idea that at ;east seemed great when I got it. Building on to TyTBone's: User's could submit their own items to the store, and there would be somebody who looked at each item to make sure it was family friendly and legal.

Oh, yes! This was what I had intended! Should have mentioned that from the start in my post!

Also, this is probably too difficult, but it builds on the sticker/felt scene builder I mentioned earlier (and yes, I was inspired somewhat by Flash to mention it):

-------------------------------------------

Oh, and I know this is not a simple idea, but I wanted to get it off my chest, so to speak. Jamul can take it or leave it (or take a part of it) as he wishes...

An e-Cards/Lil' Animation creator! Okay, hear me out:

Players can buy this little program in Mumbly Jim's or wherever stuff will be sold. (It will cost a LOT! ) Basically (or Essentially ), it's a combination sticker scene builder/animate-whatever-er/Paint. (Hm, I'm having a hard time explaining it without being wordy.) You have your basic blank screen in the middle, like in Paint; on one side are your Paint-esque tools (and maybe some Flash-esque ones too, like "rotate", "group", "onion skin" to make the 'mation easier); on the other are your Hamumu sticker options (pre-built characters and pieces of scenery to animate); on top are the layer options (if you can't change the number, at least two: one for the background, and one for everything else) and the Timeline (not utterly necessary, but very helpful). On the bottom, you would have your controller and - depending on the style of animation - "frame" or "start movement" button. Importation of sounds and .bmps would be cool, but maybe just a tad too much.

I think there are two ways the animation could go: frame-by-frame or "real-time capture".

"Real-time capture" (not the official term) is an option you would find in Director or even the old game "Spider-Man Cartoon Maker" . Basically, you click a button and from that moment on, any movement that is done on the blank screen with anything (except for the cursor) will be captured. Then you click the button off and play back whatever movement you produced. I really don't like this option; it's way too awkward to be useful and usually makes the animation jerky.

I think frame-by-frame is the best option, to try to keep things simple (this already isn't, but meh ) and more or less easy to use. Players would move or draw their characters in one place, take a "frame" shot by clicking on the bottom ?green? button, then move them again or redraw them elsewhere and take another shot. It's rather tedious, but I think it's the best option for this program.
(I'm assuming the frames-per-second would be automatically set to about 12 ps, standard for web content.)

SOOOOOO... in a nutshell, players could animate funky little e-Cards or movies or whatever, and send them to other peeps or sell them in Mumbly Jim's.

Oh, and I know this is not a simple idea, but I wanted to get it off my chest, so to speak. Jamul can take it or leave it (or take a part of it) as he wishes...

The reason I assumed there was some form of trophies was because almost all of the other Hamumu games have some form of them! (Website=Trophies, Dr L=Gallery Goals, LL2=Achievements and Gallery Goals, LL1=Badges, Kid Mystic=Challenge Mode, Sleepless Hollow=Goals, Wee Ninja=Goals, etc)

Make a couple ''racetrack'' areas and see who can get the best times on them. Hmmm... Maybe some racetracks could be constructed by players or randomly generated.

If YB can't be used for the easter-egg/goodie-bag suggestion I made earlier, then just have a bunch of in-game currency or some collectible items.

Let people ''pie'' players, which makes a bunch of pie chunks splatter all over the screen so it's hard to see for a couple seconds. Huzzah for ripping off Kol! (Actually, it would be cool if enemies could do that too)

Give people fun ranks based on how many skill points / mission points they have, like how the old forum had fun ranks for posts. Ranking could probably go from ''Noob'' to ''Pony Pwnzor'' to ''Jamulio'' (with a bunch of ranks in the middle).

A couple community events (also stolen from what KoL sometimes did) would be interesting! You could do something like the World Hunger statue in SWC, except all the players put in an effort to construct it, and big donators get some fun prize. Maybe a couple extremely puzzles hidden in places so people have to work together to solve their way to new areas of the city? Something like ''The four ancient elemental Happy-Orbs have been lost, and they're the only way to get into Happy Pony Land and stop the evil beasts there! The orbs are hidden in extremely hard-to-find places blocked by extremely hard-to-solve puzzles! Work together to find them and unlock a gate to Happy Pony Land!''.

If you allow special weapons, then you could do the scanner again, but it'd be different:

VERY weak, and you'd have to make the final hit with it. But you get collectible cards. This would be outside of your inventory. The more you have of one the more you'd have to scanner defeat them. You can trade for cards; 1 rare monster for 3 uncommons or something (not set in stone, but as an example) Obviously, bosses would be hard to get, as they would be rarer...

Perhaps the card scanner would be bought in the point store, and set to a third button? (If that's even possible). Use more points to add more ammo.

Now, you could whittle down an enemy, but it'd cost you a lot of points to do so. Perhaps it would be an addition to your weapon? Buy the attachment and refill the amounts of shots you have of it.

Now THAT brings in other weapon attachments! You'd basically spend points to get extra damage in certain elements, plus, you could potentially add odd ones later on. April fools could be a duck attachment, where it quacks every time you hit, for a limited time...

Then there could be a melee attachment for a ranged weapon XD (shorten range to almost 0, more of a prank on players, I suppose)

Maybe, a random item drop on special days? Ex. On Christmas, a Xmas Ornament will be dropped from monsters randomly.

Lightbulb Re: Happyponygate Internet Contest!

Okay, a couple of ideas, parts or concepts of which may have or have already been suggested. But meh...

Players could customize and upgrade their vehicles and sell them at the local used car lot for other people to buy.

Different things to customize:

- color and decals (back to my whole spray paint thing)

- chrome and other metal pieces

- funky objects to stick on their antenna

- etc.

Different things to upgrade:

- engine

- tires

- etc.

The ability to set one's own price is an interesting prospect, but will probably be abused way too much.

-----------------------------------------

Balloon Sender:

A person could draw something or make a small note or attach a few Loonies (or something else) to a balloon, and then they could send that out into the air. It would sail along the plains, until it would reach another random player elsewhere, whereas they would have to shoot it down (or it might just fall down nearby).

There should be a giant statue/wall/8th wonder of the world. Anyone can donate money to building it bigger and it will show the total donated and who has donated the most.

tracks: when a player leaves an area, send some of his area's environment state to the server. when a player enters a new area, load some environment state from the server. stuff like: footprints, battle scorch marks, grave markers where players died, etc. cap the combined tracks at N per player, and M most-recent globally. if you want to discourage graffiti, discard 90% of any tracks a player sends.

extension of that: tracks that are not just cosmetic. like if you have doors that can be opened and closed, send the state of those to the server. I think tracks of doors work better if they're linked in pairs or groups, so that opening one automatically closes any others in the group. otherwise there's a tendency to end up with all doors open.
