Question 4 has been thrown out. The two people who answered it get the 2 points for free.

@Mossysox: I miscalculated your adding everything up... it didn't change anyway after I gave the free 2 points: you're still in second place by 7.

Value: 19? / Category: Dumb, but not Forgotten / Expired

It's the final stretch here, and in celebration of all of Jamul's work on Dumb Accounts, here's a Dumb question, or at least a question about dumb people. Thus, it's a mini-bonus question.

Answer each of the following questions about mythological dunces. 4 points each.
  1. This king from classical Greek mythology managed to marry his own mother, even after a prophecy warned him about it. Oedipus

  2. This father of Jupiter in Roman mythology almost ate his own son until his wife gave him a rock to eat instead, which was strangely successful. Saturn

  3. In Arthurian legend, Galahad, the son of which Knight of the Round Table, was conceived when another knight slept with Galahad's mother, Elaine, mistaking her for Queen Guinevere. Lancelot

  4. In a classical story from this country, one of Kaguya's suitors, the warrior Otomo, slew a dragon to obtain a priceless jewel so he could get her hand in marriage. Unluckily, he was standing underneath the dragon, and was thus crushed to death. Japan

  5. Again from Greek mythology, this god disguised himself as a swan, Europa the White Bull and Danae the shower of gold in order to successfully seduce Lena, Queen of Sparta. Zeus

It's the final question. The end of an era. IT ALL ENDS NOW!

First, just for getting here, I'll double your current point total. Isn't that nice? Now, you can wager up to 10% of that point total on each of the following categories. The maximum wagers for each finalist are shown below. There will be one question in each category, and this will decide the winner. It's still anyone's game... anything can happen in the finals. You can wager as little as 0 points or as many as the maximum in each category, and each category can have a different wager. Only wager whole numbers of points.

Categories:
1. Sports & Leisure
2. Arts & Literature 3. Science & Nature 4. Television & Film
5. Geography & History

Maximum Wagers (per category):
jamul: 63 / Mossysox: 54 / BryanSNK: 44 / Mr. Onion: 39 / Cheeselord: 25 / TNOFM: 18 / ElMikkino: 17 / PCR: 10

You serious sir? Do you really think the world is going to end this afternoon?

Uh, yes, in just over 3 minutes and 5 seconds.
Well, isn't there anything we can do?
No, nothing.
I always thought we were supposed to lie down or put a paper bag over your head or something.
Yes, if you like.
Will that help?
No. Excuse me. I've got to go.
Oh, well, then ... Last orders, please!

Wagers are kept a secret until the question is over. PM the answer.

SL Sports & Leisure
What sporting event is based on the legend of Pheidippides, who ran to Athens to announce that the Persians had been defeated in 490BC, upon which he died of exhaustion?

AL Arts & Literature
According to Abbott and Costello in their comedic sketch "Who's on First?", what is the name of the player on third base?

SN Science & Nature
What is the only insect that can turn its head? (the female of the species also eats the male shortly after mating)

TF Television & Film
In what classic film directed by Stanley Kubrick does a general go crazy and try to destroy the U.S.S.R. to prevent them from stealing the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people, only to realize that if the bombing is carried out, all life on Earth will be destroyed by a doomsday machine?

GH Geography & History
What has been the most popular papal name chosen by the popes of the Roman Catholic Church?

You can still answer with each question at half the maximum wager, but I didn't think you had any interest.

And Hammer Up!, there will be another round (run by someone else) after this one ends; you can join when that begins.
