Unhappy Oh No, not a Japanese Hotel!

In two days, I'm going to stay at a hotel in Japan!
Look at the terror:
  • Public Hot-tubs where you go in with everyone
  • No computers
  • Elevators
  • Toilets in really dark rooms
  • Puny size rooms
  • Super-low tables where you have to sit on the floor to eat
  • Sandle things you must wear on your feet when inside
That's pretty much it. I'm gonna take my friends DS, a pencil and paper for making a script for some cutscenes in Stick Fighter, the paper to also draw some Dungeons of Fire enemies, and any suggestions?

I'd imagine that the hot tubs aren't compulsory.

I thought they were meant to have really whizzy toilets in Japan!
Y'know, ones that do stuff, like talk to you!

Heh heh, Dave Barry mentioned all of those in his book about going to Japan.

Oh? Is that it? Just be lucky that western toilets are becoming popular in Japan. Japanese toilets are not fun, I imagine. They aren't called "squatters" for nothing.

1. Ew... Hmm... Depends on who's in there.
2. No... Computer...? Is that possible?
3. I fail to see your point, unless you mean no elevators.
4. Yikes, the worst kind.
5. Are you sure there isn't a door somewhere that opens up to the rest of it? ...I'm just basing this off of a King of the Hill episode, I really have no idea...
6. Well of course. It IS Japan.
7. I see their point, but I imagine it would be a little annoying after a while.

2. AHHHHHHH! No computer! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

3. I assume he means no elevators, as the above comment said no computers so I just assumed...

5. I believe you are thinking of The Simpsons on that where they open the door. Not sure...(Then there is the rotting fruit basket on the other side)
But maybe there IS more to the room than what you have seen.... Maybe....
I would explore the room abit to check for any secret doors or such... Maybe you will find a secret dungeon and have an adventure

Well, space IS cramped in Japan, so rooms do have to be small.

Wow, Coolguy, you read Dave Barry too? I love that book.
Have you read the one about computers, Dave Barry in Cyberspace? It's rather dated now of course but still hilarious.

The elevator doors close too fast, and sometimes they open at floors for no reason. o.0

I used to live in Japan, for two years, and went to plenty of hotels during my time there. My advice to you is not to worry. Most of the hotels I was in were virtually indistinguishable from Western style hotels. Any hotel that is bookable by a Western travel agent (Iím guessing thatís how you booked your room), should be used to dealing with Western people. The more traditional Japanese type places I stayed at were booked for me by local Japanese people and were off the beaten path, as it were.

However if Iím wrong and you end up at a really authentic Japanese place, my advice is to be really careful about going into the right bathrooms. The signs for men and women might not be very obvious. Donít be afraid to ask for help!

It also reminds me of the ending of the third episode of Futurama.

They might not yell at you. They'll just glare at you and gossip about you for the next year or so.
