Default Quoting the post right above you

What are your feelings?

I personally don't like it because I read the same thing twice. I don't see what it accomplishes ether.

No, because if there are tons of posts over yours, it specifies what you're talking about, and you can also cut out parts of people's posts to specify what part you're talking about.

Well, if you just read it then you should recognize it and not have to read it again. I always read the post first, then refer back to the quote if I feel that anything needs clarification for me to understand it.

And I voted no because I completely agree with this guy|

Is there some reason that everyone in this thread is excessively quoting? 0_o

I had thought it wasn't annoying, but actually, this topic has changed my mind. But what's much worse is when people quote a whole, massive post and then just say 'I agree', or refer to a small part of it.

EDIT: XD I didn't mean your post Megadog. Oops.

I personally don't care. It doesn't bother me at most times but sometimes it does get annoying.

There's nothing that would keep you from just skipping the text in the quote :3

On-topic, not annoying. I'd rather have a quote in a post, even if it's from the post right above it, than having to wonder what on Earth the post is referring/replying to.

It's even worse when someone quotes images...

Cutting quoting to cut parts out makes perfect sense, but that's not what my problem is.

The bold is my problem. If there are no quotes, doesn't it make sense that they're replying to the post right above them?

True, but what if you get ninja'd?

Actually, quoting should normally only be done to reference posts prior to the previous one. But they can be really handy when you want to refer to more than one other post, or to make it really specific what part you're responding to. I know these points have likely been made before, so I apologize if I'm being repetitive.

Not necessarily, since you may be replying to the first post.

If you're replying to the first post, and it's not the one right above you, then quote.

Than change your post by putting in a quote. Chances are, you're not going to get ninja'd, and if you do, you're going to have to change you post anyway.

Again, I'm not arguing that quotes aren't useful. All these application are good, but quoting the post right above you (unless you want to cut part out, or answer multiply parts in different ways) doesn't help.

Since the first post defines the topic of a thread, it shouldn't ever have to be necessary to quote it if you're saying something in reply to the topic brought up by it.

I think that people should figure out what they're replying to. They'll usually just say, "True, Pumkineater, but..."
