It isn't like the recent mayhem in Bangkok, for example. We're pretty peaceful up here for the most part.
Well, people being aggressive here is to be expected, due to our government not caring about anyone, due to illegal immigrants demanding legal inhabitant rights, and due to the lack of death penalty.

This is the only problem. If illegal immagrants stay undeported lonng enough to do that, and when they start, aren't deported, that is your problem.

Before anyone says anything, I have no problem with legal immagrants. Illegal ones that use human rights to stay however, annoy me.

If somebody breaks into your house, you have a right to protect what's yours. If the burglar ends up getting killed in the process, that's very unfortunate, but he made his decision. And what if he threatens your family in the process?
Most burglars won't rob you if they know there's someone in the house. Even if they do know that they're there, having a weapon will more often than not scare them away. If neither of these make them leave and they're armed, then that is the only time I would even consider using lethal force.

Texas.

And again I say you should have the right to defend yourself and your property.
And I'm not arguing that, but you shouldn't use lethal force unless absolutely necessary.

Neither are situations that we're discussing, nor are they very common.

Whoo ya! Common ground.

I was referencing something Hyper said earlier.

But yeah, "Hey there's someone on my lawn illegally I'm going to murder him" is going rather overboard.

Being a Christian, I never advocate violence at all except in lesser-of-two-evils scenarios. For instance, if there was someone threatening to kill a friend or family member of mine and I had a gun, I would shoot him. Someone would end up getting hurt one way or another, so it would be a lesser-of-two-evils scenario.

(BTW, the comment about me being Christian was NOT me trying to spark a religion debate, so do not take it as so, and do not use this post as an excuse to start a religious flamewar on a site that's supposed to be friendly and welcoming to all)

The G20 is over now, and the politicians and diplomats have all gone home. But the drama continues in Toronto, with a demonstration outside police headquarters yesterday during rush hour asking for an inquiry into police actions during the rioting. The police have agreed to investigate themselves. I am not expecting to them to change their tune from their current stance of self-congratulations. It is also really clear to me that much of what is going on here has nothing to do with Toronto and everything to do with an ongoing feud between activists and whatever government is involved with hosting international events; these are people (unelected) who want to have a direct influence on global politics. Some see that as democracy in action. Others think democracy should be practised through official channels only.

BTW, I am visiting my Mom at the moment and using her ancient computer. It is incredibly slow. But due to the low res the smilies look much larger and funnier. The roll guy is quite funny; I didn't notice that there is a whole sequence of different faces he makes.

I heard there was more rioting in downtown Toronto today, but when I searched the news there were no reports. There was only a "rowdy but peaceful" rally at our provincial parliament buildings, Queen's Park. So that's progress.
