they plugged the oil leak, with a custom made plug!! it won't stay like this forever, but they will soon siphon it to ships on the surface

Wow really? Dang that is quite possibly one of the WORST ideas I've heard in quite a while, and trust me, my friends and I come up with a whole mess of terrible ideas pretty often

Let's tactically ignore the fact the rig was technically owned by an American company, was most likely American built and that the staff were most likely American!

So it isn't really Britsih Petrolleum's fault.

Actually, it's pretty much america's fault from my point of view. Sure you could argue they didn't have the technology to plug it up back then, but for some mystical reason after 2 months of oil spewing out, they have the technology! Seems like they just didn't want anything to do with it at the time.

Despite what RTSs show you, production of specialised equipment isn't instant.

Oh see? They were unprepared, they waited for it to happen, to create defences. Just imagine them detecting a meteor coming to Earth, about to strike, and "Wait until they create specialised missiles".

How on earth can you have specialized equipment for every possible scenario? You'd need somewhere to store it, and you'd need the materials to make it all. There would need to be infinite space, because there are infinite possibilities for scenarios.

True, The best way is just to make sure it never happens, which in PEs case is tricky, and just have defenses for the most likly senarios. Man, i am a bad speller.

That's what they did have, but "Deep Water Horizon suddenly exploding" was not on their list of likely scenarios.

They need to develop a plug for each leak that springs. They can't just have it made for when the leak starts, they need to build it when they know the size they need to plug.
