Default â â&nbsp?

Every day I check Dumbwords, and every day i see " Â&NBSP" as one of the answers, with one point in it every time. I tried typing it myself but it just says "Letters Only". Can someone explain what this is? It's making my brain hurt

Post Re: â â&nbsp?

SpaceManiac broke DumbWords with Alt-255, and it's automatically entered since then, every day.

Alt-255 =
Holding alt, pressing 2, 5, then 5 again on the directional ?numpad?, then releasing alt.
...I think.

Alt-255 is the NBSP, or Non-Breaking SPace. The reason it's a distinct character, rather than just a normal space, is because web browsers are supposed to treat normal spaces as opportunities to put in a line break if the next word goes off the edge of the current line. NBSPs don't allow that.

It's not /just/ Alt-255, it's other ones too. That SM put in. I hope he doesn't reveal the combination so people cannot copy him.

I thought Alt-codes have four numbers, not three.

There is, in fact, a slight difference between flat numbers and those preceded by zeros. Apparently, adding the zero gets you the ASCII character (e.g. Alt-01 is SOH) while leaving off the zero gets you the Unicode equivalent (e.g Alt-1 is the little smiley face).
