Default TCPA

Just to let everyone know of the horror that could be released soon:
http://www.againsttcpa.com/
TCPA would mean the end of Game Maker, RPG Maker, and anything else of that sort. And it could mean the end for Hamumu. It would mean that only huge, rich companies could make games:

Therefore open-source and freeware would be condemned to die, because without such a certification the software will simply not work. In the long term only the big companies would survive and could control the market as they would like.
Please help stop TCPA!
Thankyou.

I hate people who make things like TCPA...
They think they are making a better world...
When they are helping certain people become iron fisted dictators...

Yeek!

I hope this won't be approved, because we get lots of crazy cool stuff even if it's not made by some monster company! Geez, not like everyone who isn't a monster company will send you viruses. Boy, there's gonna be a lot of madness if this gets approved!

Just imagine:
Everyone boycotts computers;
No computers, we'd become less high-tech... the internet falls, because no one is using it...
Oh and the big companies start to shrink, then dissapear; they can't aford anything...

Yipes!

TCPA, if approved (hopefully not), is going to break the E-economy.
For if only the big companies can make software then absoulutly nobody else can build software meaning a lot of things:
  • It's impossibleto make non-commercial programs.
  • It's impossile for individuals to experiment with reverse engineering software and hardware.
  • The reason the "big" companies are so big is because they have made a lot of software. How do they buy licenses for all of it?
  • We are told to upgrade software. A box just doesn't pop up and say "There is an upgrade waiting. Do you want to download it?" It says "Buy the update that's waiting or all your music will stop working."

This is RIDICULUS!
I want to use a program. I don't care if it's got a virus. If it does, I'll get rid of it. I do NOT want to hand over supreme control of my computer to some guy in a black suit!

It is all about the money. The goverment is going to force everyone to use TC coms. Thus, if it legally mandatory Microsoft and it's competitors can crank up their TC com prices to huge amounts.

****
^ that is something so rude I will not openly say it on the forum.

Obviously Mr O was really peeved off.
But this would be the end of freeware. I hadn't thought of that. Companies would have to charge to be able to cover the costs of the liscence.

Hm, would that law... type... thingy only affect the USA or the whole world? As I understood that 'What is TCPA?' text, it's only inside the states, right?

You'll find that's because I want to be an Indie game developer. With this in action, I cannot make and sell games.

I think it is a problem, but not as much as you might think. Microsoft makes a lot of money off of the independent programmers and application developers, through the licenses for windows, high-end programming environments, and other addons. Intel and AMD make money off the processors and other chips they put in PC's, and IBM and Compaq make money off all of the other parts. I wouldn't worry about it until it gets on a news program or a news website.
