Default How fast or slow is your computer?

My computer's processor is an AMD Sempron 2200+ clocked at 1.5 ghz. It has Geforce 6200 graphics card and two one gig sticks of DDR 333 memory.

When I play the game Spelunky, my computer lags. When I browse Joystiq, my computer lags. When I am typing this message while installing a small program in the background, my computer lags. I'm beginning to wonder if my computer is even fast enough to use a USB musical keyboard. By the way, I only have two USB slots.

My current options for gaming are The Sims 2, Half-Life, Morrowind, Deus Ex and Fallout 2.

Brag or gripe about your computer here.

Yours is a bit slower than mine, but my computer was top of the line 6 years ago, and now I'm falling out. (I actually spend 2 grand; saved forever for that puppy.)

I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3400 processor and 1 GB of RAM. The graphics card is the problem; I had a ATI RADEON X800 Pro originally, but something happened to that and now I have an nVidia 6800 GT or something like that. My understanding was it was suppose to be in the same category, but the nVidia has been much more of a pain. Textures seem to flip out and for a while most any 3d game would freeze up. Upgrading the drivers seemed to help a little. I have a demo for Serious Sam 2 on my computer, and somehow I found out that running that first gets the video card "running correctly" or whatever, so I start that up first before any other 3d games, mainly GTA: San Andreas now, riding around the city and creating my own little adventures. (Last major games I played were Far Cry and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, but both were way too hard for me.)
I'd really like to get GTA4 and need Adobe CS5, but IIRC both need 2 gigs of RAM, and really I need to just get a whole new machine I think.

I wouldn't even attempt to run Grand Theft Auto 4 without a good dual core processor and recent, quality video card. That game is lag incarnate.

It used to have 4GB, but one of them got damaged and caused BSODs.

I have 3 computers, because I am a total nerd.

First, main PC:
Dual core 2.2GHz
2GB RAM
Graphics card is an ATI HD 3850, which does pretty well for most stuff, but does struggle with top settings for more and more things. I don't play many fancy-looking things so it doesn't cause problems.

Second, Linux box which mostly acts as a server:
Dual-core 1.66GHz
1GB RAM
Some kind of fairly-naff nVidia graphics chip which has trouble with full-screen youtube videos.

Third, netbook:
Basically the same specs as the Linux box I think, but runs XP and seems somehow faster. Dunno how that works.

"Windows NT6" - Sure. *whistle*
This computer is 2.40GHz with 2GB of RAM, a 110GB C drive and an 80GB D drive.
I'm not actually sure what the specs are on my Linux box. I'll have to find out somehow.

2.66GHz, 2GB memory, 80GB harddrive, running Windows XP. The video card memory is 96MB so I can't run any Portals with it.

If you mean video memory, sometimes cheap graphics cards will steal RAM.

Looked it up, it's genuinely 512mb. Odd.

my computer is fine. except for the fact that the makers were stupid enough to put a laptop graphics card into it. and it isn't a laptop.

Dunno about my processor (I forgot) but...
10.8GB ram (actually 12, but that's only for a 64 bit OS, the only downside so far about XP)
2GB Graphics card
1TB Harddrive
and surround sound, should I chose to use it.

I honestly don't see the point of TB drives, seeing as how most people probably won't need that much storage space. I'd much rather spend a little more to get a SSD instead, since HDD's are typically some of the slowest parts of a computer.

I'm currently looking into getting a new laptop in about a year, and right now I am looking at a Lenovo Thinkpad with:

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel Core 2nd gen Core i7 Quad-Core Processor (2.7GHz, 4MB L3)
Intel HD Graphics 3000
8GB 1333MHZ SODIMM RAM
128GB SSD
9-cell Slice Battery (24-hour battery life!)

My current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A135-series that I got about 5-6 years ago. It has:
Windows Vista 32-bit
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor (1.66GHz)
ATI Radeon 200M graphics
2GB SODIMM RAM (I can't remember the speed off the top of my head, but I think it's around 800MHz or so)
80GB HDD, 5400rpm

I also occasionally use an emachines desktop with:
WIndows XP 32-bit
AMD Athlon XP Processor
nVIDIA gforce 4 graphics
1GB RAM
160GB HDD, 5400rpm
