Default Halloween Horror 15 - Names Disucssion Thread

If you have participated in the Name Suggestions thread, you can give a little insight into your names over here.

hey just a thing here:

If anyone submits a rule breaking name, but also submits valid names, only remove the invalid name from the voting. It's fairly silly to not allow possibly good names because people miscounted/didn't look through 15 years worth of HH names.

explanations:

Hilarious Meta Joke

A terrible meta name. Technically, it could be called Hilarious Meta Injoke since unfunny in jokes are always winning these things.

2 Spooky, or not 2 Spooky

Internet Meme + Classic Literature Meme. Skulls may or may not be required.

Oh no! A Vampire

A seeming simple name. But why is the reaction an 'oh no!' instead of one more suited to a scary monsters. Of course, it is at least a somewhat appropriate reaction, unlike 'i <3 you vampire'.

Zombicon 2014

Conventions. Where a bunch of people with shared interests all group up and do things. Panels happen and you can stuff signed by your favorite youtuber. But this one has zombies.

Behind the Screams

Do you ever watch those 'behind the scenes' features on DVDs? You should. Some of them are interesting.

You Win or You Die

This is literally just a reference to A Game of Thrones. I should think of a better one which is still Hamumu friendly.

Time to consider names for Halloween Horror kids - this year we will not be allowing themes that include Halloween or Horror! Good luck thinking up names! As a special bonus, we will be asking people to do what we have alwasys disallowed in the past, providing explanations for the names, since that tends to make all the levels the same.

PS I will not be bothering to participate in the ruining of Halloween Horror!

And this thread has no business being in Total Mayhem where people won't see it.

Hammered if you wanted detailed explanations, why not ask directly?

HMJ

So, meta commentary is hard. It's harder when you only have 30 characters to express yourself. So I just submitted the most wide casting name possible. 'Post Modern Horror Film' didn't make the cut since it wasn't really working and was kind of vague. I really wanted to work the idea of pretentiousness into the meta name, but that didn't work out.

2Son2S

I thankfully realized that using 2spooky4me as a name would be both a horrible cop out and would just be a dumb meme name. Thanks to the amazing connective power of The Order of the Stick, I arrived at a combination of a dumb internet meme and a literature meme.

On!AV!

Yeah I reused a name from last year that didn't make the cut. I don't even care. (Also it stops people from stealing it.)

Z2104

I could say that this name was created to further the metaphor of zombies as consumer culture, but that would be a lie. I wanted a zombie themed name, and after the typical X of the Dead names, this popped into my head. I considered using Zombocon, but you need something restrictive in your names.

BtS

I wanted something that would suggest one of those ridiculous 'real hauntings' shows. The ones where a bunch of people run around a 'haunted' place in the dark and do stuff. Sadly, I couldn't think of something that worked. So I went for 'Behind the Scares', which was refined to 'Behind the Screams' since that sounds closer to Behind the Scenes.

YWOYD

Cersi is terrible. Explaining why would get me IP banned from Hamumu. So yeah, I probably need a better ASOIF based name.

I dunno, I thought she played that situation well.

  • Almost Dead but Not Quite
The name of a zombie movie in the TV show Gravity Falls, starring Chadley and Chrisandra. Also an apt description of the forum.
  • Forum of the Dead
I had a different name, but HM made me realise we don't have an "of the dead" name yet. We can't be having that.
  • Growltopia
I added a letter.
  • [Clever Halloween/Movie Pun]
This is the most genious name ever. You can tell the amount of effort I put into crafting this excellant play on words so that the name is relevant to the time that it will be released.
  • What They Do in the Shadows
There is a vampire mockumentary in New Zealand called What We Do in the Shadows. I don't intend for this name to get in, I'm just shamelessly plugging the movie for anyone who gets the opportunity to see it.
  • Level Number 6
Preferably, this would be the sixth level in the world. Make a 666 reference or a hex reference or something, I dunno.

Well I guess you are right about the name discussion thing, I've always thought that there was a rule which states that if you want to discuss names, you do it in another thread, as to why I created this one. Well, I suggest anyone who participated in the HH15 names suggestion thread, to try to limit the name descriptions as low as possible. I think this thread will only be for discussing names if someone has problems trying to think of ideas.

Its a democracy, we are all allowed opinion, we have every right to do the above (not that we necessarily should). If anything, you have less rights telling people what they should and shouldn't do.

I am not even sure how to think of that.

I am distraught by what you are saying. Okay I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it's not like I am ordering them to change their religious beliefs, it's just having reasonable answers when talking to people, if someone kept on saying hostile sarcastic remarks to your face, how would you feel?

The thing is, we've told you time and again that we, as a community, hold this particular opinion about the idea of Halloween. You then decided to host our only remaining consistant Halloween celebration and imposed your opinion, counter to our own, on the celebration. I feel that people may be responding a bit harshly, but their point is valid.

Come on, so you guys just want your Halloween to stay the same way it is, no change, no variation. That seems boring, but as I said before, I am experimenting, and obviously, I've realised now that not too many people like my new rule. Well in any case, next Halloween I won't be imposing my new rule, but having no variation leaves a rather bland taste.

You need to stop considering criticism as an insult. It's not a particularly healthy way to live your life.

Well you are right about that, I just didn't see it that way at first. I thought it was a personal attack. But seriously, no change or variation?

People naturally dislike change. In order for it to go down well, your change has to be better than the current situation.

Well why do so many people like the current situation of Halloween here? It's Fun, is not enough of an answer for me.

Why is "It's fun" not an acceptable answer? This is a game website. The whole point of this is fun.

Although it's a gaming website, Fun is just not an answer for me when it comes to Name Suggestion contests. Where is the challenge? How does it inspire the builder? Where is some ambition? Is suggesting names which go along the same lines really exciting?

The challenge is coming up with good, inspiring names. While I agree that restrictions breed creativity, when we are struggling enough just to get enough contribution in, needless confinement on what we do can only hurt things.
