You haven't been around long enough to have seen what happened in the past, so let me explain it to you.

Patches are really only necessary to repair things that are not working correctly, but Jamul is such a wonderful person that he has been known to give us enhancements and new features along with the fixes. He doesn't have to do this, and, in fact, most other software developers don't do this, even though I personally think it's a good business plan.

Anyway, because he has been nice enough to give us several upgrades along with patches for small bugs in recent history, people have decided to start threads suggesting upgrades that they would like to see, should another patch ever become necessary. There is no particular reason to believe that a patch would contain any of those ideas and, in fact, in the current such thread, there are many such suggestions that could definitely not be implemented without breaking the game.

If you look at Jamul's sig, you will see that he is only working on LL2 right now, and he has made no announcement that he is working on, or even considering making a patch. In addition, finishing Loonyland 2 will provide him with an income which will continue to allow him to make more games for us to play, so I would have to agree that would be the best place for him to be spending his time right now.

And to answer your question, it is impossible to predict how long it would take to develop a patch, because it depends on what features are to be included in it. It could take anywhere from a few seconds to several years, depending on the magnitude of the patch.
