Default New Patch Ideas

If there ever is another patch for Supreme, I've got a couple of ideas I'd like to see in it. I know that they will likely never be implemented, but I didn't want to lose them, and I figured it would be nice to have them in some form available to others later. My ideas are as follows:

1. Integration into the Windows shell
I'd like to see Dr. Lunatic World files better integrated into windows. By that, I mean such things as context menu commands, such as Open World in Editor. If, for example, a person selects multiple world files in Windows Explorer, he or she should have the option to merge them, and via a special interface separate from the main game, he or she would be able to manage tiles, custom sounds, custom items, etc.

2. Auto-download add-on worlds.
I'd like to see an option in the internet menu to download new add-on worlds from the website, instead of having to visit the add-on page every so often. Upon activation, the special routine would download undownloaded add-on worlds or downloaded add-on worlds that have been corrupted (most likely messed with in the editor) and install them, right in Supreme. A confirmation box could come up with all of the worlds that were installed. I guess for further coolness, you could have another box pop up before downloading that lists those downloadable worlds, and users could select which ones he or she wants to download, if for example he or she has a dialup connection to the Internet.

3. Better file manager in editor.
I'd like to see a much better file manager in the editor, that allows you to navigate between directories, copy files, and other such stuff. It wouldn't need to have the same context items as the Windows Explorer shell would, but it would still be nice to access other add-on worlds.

If I get other ideas, I'll post them here, I guess.

I agree with Dave's #3. I know fetching all that stuff from other directories at run time would be a problem, but you could force stuff to be copied into the right directory when it was selected.

1. I would like to be able to implement a world that could relate to the real world. It would be dark when it's dark and light when it's light and have various seasonal trappings as appropriate. It could be quite literally a different world depending on when you played it. How would this be done? The level of detail would be up to the builder, but it would require a very simple change in the editor, just two simple variables: the system time in HHMM format (Uses 24 hour clock - We can do the math to get the part(s) we want.), and system date in YYYYMMDD format (Again, we can do the math to get the part(s) we want.). I realize that weather I supply specific to the date would be backward for the southern hemisphere, but I could include a setable flag in the hub which I could use to add or subtract 6 months from my calculated date for seasonal weather changes.

2. It would be nice to have a flag on the Monster Brightness command that says to apply the brightness change only to the changed color or to the entire monster. I guess it wouldn't do anything if the monster's color hadn't been changed. This is mainly for changing recolored pieces of the monster to black or white, without recoloring the rest of the monster.

I have an idea, but I need THIS in one of my secrets worlds:

A special do you play like a monster with their own attacks(it could be funny to play like Matilda or a Pygmy Wheaterman!!!)

That one is probably too much work. We generally have more luck with simple requests.

That one was the only practical idea in my April Fool's post.

Tough to build, but an easy change for Jamul to stick into the editor.

Setting the flags for weather and lighting for time of day would be easy. Putting in the seasonal items like jack o'lanterns and Christmas trees would just be for fun. You could make it as tough or easy (for the builder) as you wanted.

It would be cool to be able to find out what the date, month, year, time, day of week, etc. was. I would probably use it to make secret modes in October and December.

I don't think there's really any reason to add a patch, other than Hammered's idea. Dave Hettel's ideas would make things a bit easier, but they aren't necessary. The only glitch type of thing that I've found is that frozen Magic Lamps also freeze all their Djinnis.

...Erm... a music maker?
That would be a good idea...
I'd love it if there was one.
Like the one in Stockboy.

Bah, stupid inspiration. I was thinking that if you used a mind control gun on lamps, it might make all the genies on your side. Oh well.

Then again, Jamul might not even bother to read this...

But if this topic is just for dreaming up ideas, I'd like to implement some way to shade everything (Like Underlava and Underwater). You know, so you could visit a slimy river bottom (Green Shading) or maybe go into someone's dream (Purple Shading).

You can already make a clear underlava thing by activating a movie with the flag.

Maybe there should be something that breaks the game in the 8.0 patch, but it is optional, because what it does is it uninstalls Supreme, saves your worlds, then re-installs supreme with the patch.

I think there should be a monster shape importer. so you would be able to use kidmystic and looneyland monster sprites without their AI.

and I think jamul should take a crack at 444s Idea, It sounds cool

or if you could put, set behavior it would consist of:

attach(normal monsters would attach to another specified monster and keep it's AI)

follow (monsters would follow you and keep it's AI)

playable (monster would be playable but keep it's same projectiles)
