Default Smoking Ban

I just want to share with everyone what a wonderful night I had last night. We went to the pub for the quiz last night (not that I was drinking alcohol - its Lent!) and had a great time - why? you ask. Well, the smoking ban came into force on Monday here in Wales and therefore I could breathe properly & have not been coughing this morning & my hair and clothes don't stink!

I've been looking forward to it ever since it was mentioned & now really happy it is finally here! Yeehah!

Zilly Welsh! That ban came to Scotland just under a year ago.

And us poor English folks still haven't got a smoking ban.

I think we have, actually. Not outdoors, though.

Is the ban a COMPLETE ban? No use anywheres, or just in public places?

It would be kind of unfair if it was EVERYWHERE, even in your own houses.

I think it's just 'public places', which seems to mean restaurants and workplaces and stuff. Although, IMHO, the street is far more public.

I suppose if people want to smoke in their own homes, that's up to them. But I feel strongly that smokers should have to pay for medical care, if their illness/problem was caused by smoking. They get enough warnings.

I think smokers might justifiably feel that they've already paid for any costs of medical treatment in the duty they're charged on tobacco products. The last time I saw any figures on this (which was, admittedly, a good few years ago) smokers actually paid the exchequer some five times the amount that they were said to cost the NHS.
(Speaking as a non-smoker here....)

Smoking stinks. It bothers my eyes, it smells terrible, and it's a cause of lung cancer.
