Question bannishment

How many people have been banished, and who? What's the story behind them? Why did they get banned?

Yerfdog Re: bannishment

Tons of accounts have been banned, but many of them are people who post advertisements and such, or are people who have been banned before. You can't give an exact number to all of them.

Everybody who has a ban probably deserved it. They probably cursed, spammed, were mean, etc. to get themselves banned.

Don't worry about getting banned- Jamul usually gives warnings before he bans anybody (although people who are software pirates or post advertisements don't get warnings).

Nonsense posts on non-total-mayhem topics and multiple accounts are a few ways to get banned. Deadly when combined.

Yeah, multiple accounts are bad. I think there's someone who's been notorious for that, but I can't place my finger on it... *nudges 31337*

Actually, a few days ago, I saw a banned member logged on called Willy Wauz. Who was Willy Wauz?

Sure he was banned? If he was banned, he couldn't log on.

A very notorious spammer.

Strange.... he was logged on, I checked his user profile, and it said that he was banned, but now I can't find him on the Members List.

Banned people can log on, but they are not shown on the member list. They are banned from posting, not reading.

Yeah, when I was banned, I checked up on the forums every so often. I wasn't too infatuated with GameFAQS to forget Hamumu.

However, Redbone, Infinitehammer, and 31337 (sort of) were de-banned. I don't know how, I wasn't around these forums when those events (except for 31337) happened.

I am not sure but I think Redbone was eventually forgiven and I was allowed back on for different or at least passable behavior but I didn't know Infinatehammer was banned...

Yes, at the same time as Death, for the same thing: all the business about Happy Pony Land with gumdrop trees and strawberry waterfalls.

I still feel that the rules for outer-linking are a bit inconsistant. I was warned for a link that, although it contained no language in and of itself, linked to VERY bad words. KoL and YouTube link to just as bad language, yet they're allowed.

I heard that if you type certain words into the Google searchbox and click search, bad words will appear. Don't link to Google anymore! :O
(BTW, there are some nice YouTube workarounds, like TubeCodes, that enable one to watch YouTube videos but don't display any comments :D Maybe people should start linking to a site like that instead of the actual YouTube -o_-o)

Youtube links are NOT allowed in general. Fullscreen youtube links are fine (they have no comments and contain only the movie). KoL is a borderline case that I'm glad is only linked once (and it does not remotely have the kind of language we're talking about - it has mild profanity in some very limited areas, and a lot of innuendo... links to such are of course not allowed normally). If it would make you feel less persecuted, I'd be happy to remove the KoL link.

The reason youtube and google are not bad of themselves is that they are search engines. Once you are there, you choose what to do and have to explicitly try to find something bad (unless the youtube has free-for-all comments, in which case it's not allowed, because those always turn into profanity parade). Linking to a webcomic, which is inherently something someone would then flip through as opposed to a generalized archive, which contains a huge explicit language warning right on the linked page, is such an obvious violation that I don't even have words for it. The only people who have ever done anything nearly so serious in terms of linking were megatrolls who had to have all their posts wiped.

You may feel singled out, but I assure you, dozens of links are wiped every week on this forum. Lately, it's been getting really bad too, and I'm going to have to start dishing out serious warnings if it keeps up.

It's really simple: take half a moment to look over what you want to link to. Don't link to it if there is dirty stuff on it. This is common sense and is a useful skill in the rest of the world too, not just here.
