As we all know, No One is perfect. And as you should know by now, I am No One. Other than that, I quite agree with you, Ubernoob. But without perfect people, we might as well try to improve the system. Of course, having leaders follow the same rules as the common people would be a good place to start. The most important thing is probably to keep politicians out of office. If we can do that, we're in great shape.

Who? No, I've never heard of anyone called "Cheeselord." Sure you're not imaging things, comrade? Big Brother doesn't like that you know...

Didn't you hear that minipax raised the chocolate ration to 75g a week?

Because, after a while, Big Brother is all-good and perfect, nobody thinks that it could be better than it is.

I agree, Mr. Cheeselord, that keeping undesireables out of the system might theoretically be a good way to improve it. But how can you do that? Politicians don't necessarily start out bad. But the crummy system seems to turn them all bad. We are as responsible as anyone for our disappointing politicians. And on the other hand, how many of us could stand the scrutiny that politicians have to endure?

Improvement of people is best done on an individual basis, in my opinion. In other words, self-improvement. But having said that, every once in a while we need to let the politicians know that what they're doing is not acceptable and that we demand better.

Need I remind you that George Orwell was an idealist? He thought it could be done, just saw the risks of attempting to create an ideal society without being careful enough. Actually, he believed that any violent revolution was doomed to failure, but a non-violent revolution had a good chance.

So was Oscar Wilde, but that doesn't make his opinion any less valuable.

Whaaaaat?!

Ask what you think is a completely ran-dumb question and someone apparently finds meaning in it. Or are you just being even more ran-dumb? Have I been out-dumbed? AAaAAAAAh!

Oscar Wilde is one of my favourite literary figures. He's like the Bugs Bunny of the Victorian era.

By the way, I may not be perfect myself. I once thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

No political system is good enough to make up for all the cheaters. Look at our system for example. We charge higher prices in stores to make up for the shoplifters. So corruption is built into out system, planned for and accomodated. Same for people who cheat on their taxes. If everyone in our society suddenly started to obey all the rules, the system would actually be out of kilter!

Mindbending, isn't it?
