Default The Universe is around 13 billion years old.

*********

If it is not, why do we see stars that are verifaibly several billion lightyears away?

Carefully-positioned LEDs.

You can't place any light source in any position and have the light take a shorter amount of time and look like a star that distance away.

Fine: REALLY carefully positioned LEDs. With mirrors and everything.

I thought it was only ten billion or so years. I distrust round figures anyway. And I doubt that we have seen to the edge of the universe, or that that would even necessarily be possible, since light bends around and comes back the other direction.

Which I said "around".

There is non-looping area 13 billion lightyears in radius, so if the universe does loop, it's bigger than that.

How far out are quasars? Aren't they supposed to be something that would be impossible today, but could have existed in the early universe? And don't they move faster than light, due to expansion of the universe?

They exist right now, around 780 million light years away.

We have no idea how old the earth is and your calculations are probably off by I don't know about 100000

Actually, we do. Scientists believe it to be about 4.5 billion years old.

This 4.9 or 4.5 billion is based on geological evidence, no?

Because of the speed of light. We know stars are billions of miles away, and we know the speed of light, so the universe can't be younger than the amount of time it takes light to reach us from the stars.
