Default Is anyone here concerned about this?

There has been a recent outbreak of swine flu in Mexico, the US, Canada, and New Zealand. The facts;

- Currently an around 6% morality rate.
- Has infected over 1,000 in Mexico, and killed around 142, and has been confirmed to have infected 20 highschoolers in New York and many other cases have been reported.
- The US has declared a State of Emergency.
- The World Health Organization has raised its warning level to a 4\6.
- If you're a superstitious person, the date of December 21, 2012 is slowly creeping closer.

A news article by people who know more about this than I do.

Also Something else:
If you live close to the border of Mexico, I Recommend that you should not go over the border right now. USA could shut down the border at any time, and whichever side you are on, you are stuck there.

What if you stand RIGHT inside Mexico's borders (And by that, I mean an inch away the borders) and USA closes their borders, are you stuck there? Or can you make the walk back? (Assuming you were in the United States before.)

Yeah, but 2012 is due to a meteor, silly, not a deadly plague. Although I've looked it up, and it simply says disastrous events, so it could be. ...I might sound nonchalant, but in all seriousness, I'm getting a bit paranoid. But that's normal for me.

I'm a little worried about this new strain, but there's always a series of new viruses coming out. It's all about not being the one to die next... As bleak as it seems, it's all about luck. Luck, and good hygiene.

Recently, I've been having lung pains, and it gets hard to breath sometimes. However, this is not the swine flu, although we're not sure exactly what it is. It seems to be genetic, my uncle had it as well, but he didn't recover until his mid-20's... (Which means he had this problem for almost ten years...) Our doctor told me my body is recovering from a flu bug I got in January. What I'm saying is, I really hope I don't get infected, because I don't think my body can take it right now... (And no, I haven't gone to Mexico or have been in contact with anyone who's recently traveled there.)

P.S. Oh, and PCR, you forgot to mention...

- That this virus is possible to be passed on by humans alone, while the bird flu was only in direct contact with infected bird. Meaning, it's more contagious then the last strain.
- This virus can travel quickly, and can cover ground quickly. This may be due to carriers themselves, I'm not sure. But it went from Mexico to Southern Canada rather quickly, so there's the proof.

I think the speed the disease traveled north has a lot more to do with the fact that a lot of young people went to Mexico for spring break and brought it back with them on a plane. *Great new idea for a horror film ... Germs on a Plane ... Someone contact Samuel Jackson ...

No, it's contact. Us kiwi's are being told everything there is to know about it, as 10/4000000 people is way worse then England is (1/60,943,912) and America (20/303,824,640).

Kids, this is why you live in Australia. It's further away from Mexico than America is.

Yeah. It also broke out in New York, where I was about 3 days ago, so I'm showering and washing constantly.

Well I'm better off than you! When I logged on and saw half of the title of this topic, I immidiately knew it was about swine flu. And yes I am a bit, well a lot concerned about it. I am a superstitious person and well I'm getting paranoid and I'm afraid of getting sick as I've had enough illnesses and injuries for life.

Would it do any good if I suggested that nobody should worry? There are normally about 200 deaths in Canada a year due to flu, and so far we have had 0 deaths, and only a few mild cases in Ontario. I heard that although the US has declared a state of emergency, they should really be calling it "emergency preparedness". In other words, they are getting ready to deal with it if things should get bad. This means that they don't think things are bad yet. I think it is something we all need to keep our eyes on, but now isn't the time to worry.

2012 is the end of the Mayan calendar because it simply wasn't designed to be able to display any higher date than that. It's not the end of the world, it's the end of a shoddily designed date display system; some people used that as a reason to make up yet another "end of the world" theory; as far as I'm aware, the world has already ended at least twice in the past.

Regarding this "swine flu" outbreak, well, what can I say. It hasn't quite spread to where I live I think, but it's still awful. Let's hope people will find ways to deal with it and prevent even more people from dying. -o_-o

The British Government have said that there's no need to worry as pork is still safe to eat. This almost certainly means the opposite is true.

If it were airborne, pretty much everyone would have it.

It changed for us, four more people got it.

These are the decimals:
NZ=0.000,003,5
ENG=0.000,000,016,408,529,862,671,106,508,554,948, 031,561
USA=0.000,000,065,827,445,726,587,547,343,098,966, 561,764

And percents:
NZ=0.000,035%
ENG=0.000,000,164,085,298,626,711,065,085,549,480, 315,61%
USA=0.000,000,658,274,457,265,875,473,430,989,665, 617,64%

There are other diseases that are more lethal and are still spreading that have higher kill rates then this, so I'm not concerned at all.

The media is hyping it up much more then It should be. I was sick with the regular flu, so I wanted to go to the doctor, But when they heard my symptoms, they said I had to go to a merge because they refused to take me. They also asked me if I had traveled to mexico recently, which I haven't. I've never been to mexico. Anyway, I had to wait 10 hours at a merge until 3:00 in the morning for a doctor to tell me I had the regular flu and that I needed rest, which our family doctor could have easily done in a fraction of the time.

Needless to say, I am unhappy right now...

I suppose the moral is not to be worried about this. Only a couple dozen people have died worldwide, and while that is sad, the odds of it happening to you are infinitesimal compared to what the general populace thinks.
