It's "Aero," the name for Vista and 7's fancy interface. If you disable that (in the settings somewhere, I don't have Vista) you'll get a more plain, non-flashy interface that doesn't confuse Supreme as much.

It's caused by the Windows 7 Taskbar.

Here's the solution I finally found that seems to work on everything:

Right-click on the Windows button.
Choose Properties.
Choose the Taskbar tab.
Click "auto-hide the taskbar".

Ta-da. Since the taskbar is hidden while your game is running, it can't interfere with the palette.

Hey, I'm having an issue sort of related to this... whenever I alt tab away from the game, sometimes the game locks up - like, I can't do anything except minimize it and unminimize it, and the window doesn't show anything, even though the music is still playing. I can't even close it right - I have to actually go into the Task Manager and end the lunatic.exe process?

Any idea why this is happening?

Yeah, that can happen... the solution is not to tab away!

Well, if you say so...

Hey, if you ever isolate and fix the problem in a future version of SWC, though, it'll be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Hey! I don't know if this helps, but I just had the 'freeze' again while I was at the menu. I tried clicking around in the window, and the music changed as if I was navigating between the menus. So I think it might be just the visuals that are freezing, and the actual gameplay itself is fine... I hope this info helps!

Edit 2: ... And now I am getting no visuals whatsoever when I even start up the game. This could be bad...

Wellll, I just tried all the solutions offered in this topic and the previous one, and the only one that worked was windowed mode... and even then sometimes that freezes the game while I'm playing. Maaaan...

I tried all the solutions, but none of them worked. Windowed mode works, but it's irrating to play in a little screen. Any other solutions?

You could try to make it larger by dragging the sides of the screens farther to make it bigger.

Just kill explorer.exe since it always steals the color palette of any palettized game (Worms included). Then start Lunatic via the Task-Manager... if you want, I modify my Worms launcher which automatically kills and restarts explorer while you are running the game...

Actually, I got it to work by ticking ALL the boxes, and running in compatibility mode for Windows 2000.

Bois, kill the explorer process before starting the game. Explorer always messes up the color palette of palettized games.
This is a screen showing the problem: Explorer replaces the games palette with the Windows internal one, making colors look different. This also happens in Worms, where it is even more annoying:

Though that's probably not so good for your system, as the Explorer process is the process that handles your desktop icons and the taskbar at the bottom. Explorer crashes for me on Windows XP sometimes, and I generally reboot.

Also, IIRC the Explorer process will restart if there's none left running. Though maybe it's different in Windows 7.

I kinda have Explorer-dependent system tray (and non-system tray) processes, so that's really not an option. A patch from Team 17 (who curiously fiercely guard a property they've done naught with for years now) would be the better solution. Also "boi" went out in 2002.

There's no other solution till yet. Stopping and starting explorer with the task-manager works like a charme and is not "risky" at all. There's even an option to do this in Windows Vista / 7 by holding down ctrl+shift, right-clicking and empty space in the white programs list of the startmenu and selecting "Quit Explorer".
There are actually third party addons for Worms which automatically suspend (not kill) explorer while the game is running, but they are not perfect.
A patch by the beta updaters is under development, forcing Worms to use Direct3D, which stops explorer from stealing a games palette since there is none.

Question Re: SUPREME: Help! Win7 Graphical Glitches!

With the help of the tips above, I have SWC working pretty well UNLESS I have to leave temporarily (running in a window looks horrible for me, BTW).

I can leave OK (Windows key or Alt+Tab), but when I come back, the colors are all messed up. I can see that I am back is SWC because some of the shapes are discernible, but I cannot see things well enough to continue playing. However, if I change screens (e.g. leave the main screen w/ the big pizza slices by clicking the Play slice), all is well again.

Any suggestions on how to get it work when I come back (other than "don't go away")?

Nope, that's the answer, I'm afraid. Alt-tab just doesn't work right all the time because windows isn't a fan of these very old 256-color graphics modes. But if switching screens fixes it for you, then the same trick as switching screens is employed when you pause the game, so try pause/unpause as well.

Just thought I'd mention, to get mine to work I had to UN-CHECK everything in the compatibility tab, so i guess the way to go is to fiddle around with the checkboxes until you get something that works.
