Default Terraria

THE OFFICIAL HAMUMU THREAD FOR:

Release Date: May 16th 2011
Platform: Windows, requires Steam
Cost: $9.99 USD

I am very excited for the game, because its like a platforming action based sandbox! And apparently they are going to be adding new content every week/other week after release, so that is pretty insane.

Looking forward to it, considering buying it if ... wait. You missed a 1 in the May 16th. Never mind that. Stream of consciousness here. Considering buying it if enough other Hamumuians do, could be worth it. I appreciate it as something more than just a Minecraft clone given its emphasis on the adventuring aspect than the digging and construction, something Minecraft is lacking, while doing a good job of keeping things interesting and fun with plenty of replay value.

Meh, I don't think I will buy this, but 10 dollars sound like a good deal... who knows? I will think about it, after all, I still have 2 days till it comes out Plus, it looks like a game which would actually work on my comp. As for the moment being, I need to get Steam.

The reason updates are taking ages.

I would rather he didn't. The next time he does, stuff will break, and his fanbase will go "DUDE SHUT UP NOTCH IS DIVINE AND EVERYTHING HE DOES IS RIGHT. THEY WERE GLITCHES AND YOU WERE ABUSING THEM NOW GO CRY SOME MORE."

Back on topic, I will definitely buy this game, as it sounds pretty fun, and ten dollars is nothing (7 euros; steadily decreasing).

No, the countdown page said it was 10 euros 'cuz steam doesn't do Euro to Dollar.

What the heck? This is ridiculous, and it is clear discrimination against Europeans, especially British people. Where exactly does it say that?
Edit: After some research, it turns out you are totally right. I am definitely not using steam after that, and unless Terraria eventually gets released independently, I am going to opt out.

Steam does do Euro/Pounds to Dollar, but only if the developer asks. This something to do with avoiding lawsuits.

And I still pay £40 for a game that costs $40 in America if I'm in a normal game shop. So Steam isn't the only thing ignoring exchange rates.

Of course, all things considered, the Euro ain't looking too hot. Unless the EU takes drastic action. But that's off topic.

So, yeah, might be getting this after the exams. Looks fun.

EDIT: It's out on Steam. For £5.99. So there was nothing to fuss about.

And I've got a dedicated Terraria server up!

IP address is hs.platymuus.com, and the password is Dumb (capital D). No Hamachi required, the server should be up all the time.
Our official team is Blue, for Hamumu, if you want to see everyone else.

By the way, looking for feedback on http://wombat.platymuus.com/servers/.

The server has been updated for Terraria 1.0.3. Here's the official changelog:

Quote:
Player
Players can no longer repeatedly double jump after touching the top of the world.

Items
NEW ITEM - Black Lens.
NEW ITEM - Sunglasses.
NEW ITEM - Jungle Armor (This has replaced Cobalt Armor.)
NEW ITEM - (RARE and SECRET Item for casters) Go on! Find it!
Fixed a bug that prevented Underground Jungle Seeds from spawning.
Using the Cloud in a Bottle will now correctly reset fall distance.
Set bonuses that provide more defense, now correctly match their tool-tip.
All armor inventory icons have been improved.
All player armor graphics have been improved.
Iron, gold, meteor, and bone helmets have been changed graphically.
Molten armorís overall defense has been reduced.
Meteor armorís set bonus now reduces Space Gun mana cost to 0.
Several magic items have had their damage increased.

NPCs
Added two new rare enemies that can both be found underground.

Server / Multiplayer
Created a console server with no video card requirement. Type help in the console for a full list of server commands.
Increased client side multi-player security, this should help in the battle against broken character files.
There is now a host and play option in the client, that will auto connect you to your own server world upon its creation.
Corrected a bug that was causing the Server to send out liquid as water when it should have been lava.
Clients are now able to connect to ports other than 7777.
Slimes are synced better on multiplayer games.
Accessories now correctly sync between players.
Fixed a bug that would cause the player to get stuck on "Receiving Tile Data" when their spawn is placed near the world edge.
Added -join <ip>, -port <port>, and -pass <password> command line parameters to the client to enable auto-join of servers.

Misc.
The game window is now re-sizable while in windowed mode.

In order to conserve computer power while we're on vacation, the Terraria server will be down for two weeks. I'll put it back up as soon as I can.
