Default Let's Talk Character Builds.

Seems like this subforum has more activity lately. I figured I would contribute some.

My personal favorite build, I call "the shredder". I've finished the game on Madcap 100% with this - meaning I speedran once and leveled everything up and got all of the crystals - it's terribly broken. It does exactly what the name implies. The strategy is, cast Berzerk and go wild on the enemies with a giant swarm of thrown axes. The knockback will drive them into corners where shatters and rebounds will deal more damage. This can be used without Berzerk for a chip-damage strategy, which may work but will be a pain for your first run of Madcap.

Build
Skills (in order of necessity):

Throwing 10 - It's throwing. You need this.

Berzerk 4 - It's berzerk. The entire build is made around this. You've got infinite, rapid-fire axes for a few seconds. The reason you're not going to want to level this up further is because you want to be able to spread your damages out, and you can't move while transforming the battlefield into a pile of used axes and giant coins.

Ricochet 10 - Don't lose the axes!

Piercing 10 - This, when combined with Ricochet and Homing, lets you shred.

Homing 10 - SPRAY AND PRAY, BOYS. You can't move while berzerking. This negates that downside.

Restoration 1 - I don't know if any of you play Team Fortress 2, but if you play medic a lot you probably know what "flashing uber" is. Basically, you get a 1-second invuln in exchange for a lower ubercharge (invuln charge) time. You'll be flashing on yourself a lot to protect from heavy hits, removing statuses, and basically blocking stuff. This is very effective when timed right. Note that the invuln time decreases while berzerking. The reason you only need one point is because if you flash invuln, you won't need the health bonus, and you get to conserve your magic.

Energy 10 - You'll be using berzerk a lot. You're going to want to be able to do it when you need to.

Shatter 10 - More splash. Woohoo!

Strength 10 - Once you've got your massive chip damages in, it's time for some heavier stuff. The stamina cost doesn't matter anymore. You'll be berzerking.

Triple 10 - More axes. You have infinite stamina, why not?

Endurance - If you run out of magic, sometimes it's good to have a backup.

Static / poison [x]- If you really want to overkill the enemies. Again, this has no downsides if you're berzerking, so if you have extra skill points, by all means use them on these.

Gale 1 - optional. It's used much like restoration, except it can forcibly relocate enemies so you can tear into them. 1 should be enough for simple reflects, your axe will knock them back more.
Tracking 2 - If you really want to blind-fire, shoot in the general direction of the red dots. You probably won't need above 2 points unless you're going for objectives, presents, and the like.

Talents (no order):

Throwing - You're making a throwing character with stacking damage. Why would you not want this?

Stoneskin - Do you want to die? Hope not. Luckily you can rank this up to 10 pretty much as soon as you get it.

Windbag - Reduce costs, increase damage output.

Vivacity - Like endurance, just in case.

Scavenging - Like Vampirism but without any skill point costs.

Meditation - Regaining magic is good.

Arsenic - If you're running poison, this removes quite a bit of armor once leveled up.

Mobility - GOTTA GO FAST!

Alchemy / Mixology - If you're chugging Magicola to keep up with your costs, this is a good investment.

Items
:

Axe with 10 damage - 10 speed is good too but not required. The Nucular Axe is highly recommended. If it is magical or golden (which it should be), your priorities are listed in the skill list above. The item should be Whistling, or if you can't get that, Flaming. Note that Restoration should have an absolute cap of 3 and that Homing and Ricochet don't really benefit all that much from a 1 point overflow.

Amulet - Hotfoot is okay, but you won't be moving all that often. Absorbing is amazing in conjunction with the shredder and restoration, and Angry is okay because it won't dip into your mana pool all that much while providing damage output - your damages stack in this build so 2 damage per hit is a LOT. Again, skills are listed above.

Parka - Thorny's fine. Lucky's cool, but only for a short period of time, which is until you get your desired items. I usually use Stone or Thorny, or my Dark Parka on my main profile, but this one is more up to preference.

Lenses - Eep Mumu makes your axes devastating. This combination raises attack damage by 5 per hit. Balki Kwyjibo helps with stacking damages on enemies in the open - but when you have Homing up to 10 that won't do much for you. It's more of an early-game option. Leeeroy Grok is also good if you Restoration flash a lot.

Modifiers

Hard - 2pro4u. I appreciate the challenge - and it gets very easy with this strategy. If you want to lower the difficulty, nobody's stopping you.

Onslaught - More enemies, why not? Crowded gives a similar effect. 2 Killbors? Bring it on. I have axes.

Optionals / eventually useless modifiers

Merchant will serve you well until you get your desired items.

Expert is an option but not essential. It will take a significant amount of time to obtain Homing, which is a large part of your build, so I guess if your aim is good you can go without it. It becomes useless after your first playthrough, in which you normally should have obtained all of the skill scrolls and talents.

Even is also usable, and lets you get your skills leveled up early if you also use Expert. After you hit level 50, though, it's a waste of a slot.

Ironman, if you're really hardcore. I don't recommend it though. It requires a lot of XP grinding to keep yourself alive.

Disco - well, tell me why not? Oh, right, it's garish and overbearing. Do it if you wanna!

Madcap Crystals

Might - Your damage output is your life.

Life - Your life is also your life.

Shield - just stay alive, okay?

You won't need many crystals past that. I would put some into curse if you're using poison.

If I missed anything important, let me know. Feedback is also welcome, I know I'm not perfect.

Post your builds here! I have an ally-centric one I'm working on, and I'll post that after I finish Madcap with it.

Throwing and fire skills are overpowered. Berserk, Toasties and Burninate are probably the top three skills.

^This man knows his stuff.

Toasties carried me through every quest on my first-ever playthrough until my magic pool was being drained too much. Stinkin' Stinkin' Bodzhas.

I did a build much like this for my under 4 hours rush playthrough. Easy, Expert, Even. Maxed Luck and Training, then went full-speed-ahead into throwing doom.
I think the +5 Axe Speed lens combo might even be better than the +5 damage. Also, poison is super awesome on throwing builds (before you get 100 Might crystals, at least) because with the Arsenic talent level 10, it halves their armor. So those Stonewalls will take an extra 35 damage per hit, to say nothing of bosses. Super cool.
Currently I'm doing a Skillbor run and blitzing through to 100 of each Crystal... it helps that I got the Jord Axe and Trainee Parka, hehehe. I'm going to end up with 10 points in every skill pretty soon... I'm farming XP in the Big Bodzha Battle and loot in Under the Factory, do you have better farming locations?
I don't always go for Throwing, as I find it can be a little TOO broken :P When going for a swung-axes build, I find that Stomp is SUPER USEFUL at high levels because it has a large area and long stun time. Really nice against those turrets! Stomp in their vicinity and just run by.
I've also found that Tornado can be really nice in a tight spot... the tornado moves away from you, making it so every nearby enemy is held out of arm's reach. Tornado + Burninate + Brain Juice is a really, really broken combo. Or Tornado + Berserk + Stomp level 10, hehehe. Normally the knockback makes repeated uses of Stomp useless, but with Tornado holding them in place...

Tornado and Gale are also really strong if you combine them with a having all the good throwing skills. You can easily bully bosses into corners and throw axes at them while they're there and the axes will simply bounce around slapping them silly.

Also putting 1 skill point into shrooms can be very useful for the Prototype AQ40 puppet escort mission your first run through Madcap but now that I think about it tornado could also be very useful.

I actually did the escort mission by clearing out all the Stinkin' Bodzhas and then just marching them home.

However, on Onslaught it was a little more difficult... but I managed it actually by trapping the prototypes. From the place where you get the prototypes you go a ways left; I'd kill all the Bodzhas on this section before getting the prototypes and then kill the few that spawned in as fast as possible. Then at the place where the path curves up-right, I'd get them stuck in a spot where they can't move up or right, then go clear the Bodzhas in the section ahead, then come back for them.
This way you only have a few Bodzhas threatening the prototypes at any time; if you have decent power, you usually have enough time to kill them all before your prototypes can even reach them.

What I did on the Prototype mission was, I got the puppets, left the Gorge, flew back in on Phineas' balloon, and spammed down the Bodzhas near the door while the puppets did their work.

Hehehehe, I was wondering if that would work! That is so cheap, I love it.

Slightly related, I was playing Team Fortress 2 today and was able to set up a nest on Orange Mid by using the resupply to make everything level 3 then sentry jumping to point and using the Rescue Ranger to teleport everything to me.

If you don't play TF2, I'm sorry that you didn't understand that. :P
