*dusts off thread*
Right, I took a break, but this isn't dead by a long shot. Actually, I just had some fresh ideas - I've been playing Loonyland 1, and realized that LL1 has Swap Map and Copy Map specials - and they use the same engine, so I should be able to do that in LL2 as well! Opening the LL1 world file in the LL2 editor revealed the trick, so expect some Fun shenanigans with Swap and Copy map!

Screenshots from 2 new areas.
Gelid Grove:

Just south of Tweestad, this forested area has some tough enemies. Is that a Fruit Punch wandering around? And a couple Magic Hats? Yes, yes indeed. Do these ones give you an Upgrade Point too?? No they do not. They just spam you with mice.
Also note that to get to the island with Mimics, you have to chop down the tree - unless you have a powerful ranged attack, of course.

What's this? Might it be... important somehow? Who knows?

Precipitous Precipices:

Don't look down! This place is a bit like the Frosty Cliffs, only nastier (of course)!

It's also... not quite finished. But hey, look! Stinky Socks? A Stone Rose? Yep, this area also has miniboss enemies as regular, randomly generated enemies. Try not to die!

I haven't posted an update for a while, but I'll be putting time into it. As soon as I finish the cliffs area, I'm getting started on the maze of tunnels under Tweestad... I plan on making it somewhat 3-D in a way, so it might get a bit confusing

Currently almost done with the Creepy Copse area. If you remember the unusable entrances at the west end of the Brisk Bog and the south end of the Polar Pond, those both lead here. You can use this as an alternate route to sneak around to the end of the Polar Pond maze early on!

I would not suggest this plan for any but the most fearless warrior.

It is a terrifying place.

I just put the balloon quest into the game. Unlike in Winter Woods, you can access ALL destination points as soon as you get access to the balloon. In fact, 2 of the destinations are places you can't get to by foot until you've been there by balloon!

I actually hit the 256 specials limit in one of the levels, so I'm going to have to move some features to a different level... thank goodness I learned how to use a hex editor to copy + paste + edit specials! XD

Argh, so close to another prerelease edition! This next will have a few more pieces of equipment, some new quests, the ability to get the rest of the bokboks and start Magicsmithing, and enable ballooning. And a secret or two. Maybe it'll be out this weekend. Maybe.

OK! PRERELEASE 3 IS A THING NOW. It's maybe half finished? Something like that. Maybe a little more.
As before, there are 3 versions. Click on one of the three following links, open the "File" menu, and select "Download." Then, extract to your Loonyland 2 CE folder and follow the instructions in the readme.
If you want to play with all 16 custom tracks
If you want to play with only 10 custom tracks (so you can play Winter Woods with its default music without having to rename the music files each time)
[urlhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_pkCtjlW8toX1lXdjNMTTlVWlE/edit]If you want to play with only the default Winter Woods music[/url]

These downloads do not include the music, since if you've downloaded an earlier prerelease then you have it already and it's most of the download size.
Click here to download the music, if you haven't already.
If you want to use all 16, then rename the default WW music and extract to LL2/music. If you want to use just 10, then only extract song006.ogg through song015.ogg to LL2/music.
Sometime soon I'll post screenshots and maybe a video of some of the features I added.
Happy testing!

If you have at least three Skill Points put into Bonehead, a friendly Bonehead will also be summoned.
The northeast of the Precipitous Precipices has an ledge that can only be reached if you use a Rope. Follow the path to the end until it opens into a large empty chamber. One of the walls can be destroyed with a projectile to reveal a secret room.

I found and fixed a minor bug or two; if you got the Brambles skill but not the upgrade that gives Cold Wave and Tornado, it would take away the Brambles skill whenever you entered the Precipitous Precipices.

I also added a new secret area. It is a pit full of monkeys. It is terrifying.

So I updated the .zip files. If you've already downloaded, you can redownload and extract. I also fixed a minor dialogue issue, so you should use the new .ips patch too.

Liking the world so far. Just a few things I noticed: I was able to win the mouse cellar quest by going to the non-cellar part of the map and killing the 5 or so rats that were there. There was a spot in the southeast of the Frigid Forest that a Punch spawned in but was behind trees (I'm fairly certain. Could've been a secret). Also it took me years to find Bob's wife, but that happens in the original game too so I don't know what you can do about it.

Also, with the bears and the bookshelves, is there actually one I could move to uncover the cave, or is that Hank's way of saying I have to go kill bears somewhere else?
EDIT: Okay, solved that. New question: is Curaga intended to be missing?

EDIT: I seem to be stuck. There's some exit or something I'm missing and can't find yet. Haven't found the balloon, the mimic, or any keys but Snowman yet. Also, I never opened this chest:

EDIT: Okay, after finally realizing that I hadn't explored the top or bottom of the River map, I think I've actually hit everything. One bug I noticed is I went back to the Arena Side and walked in the top reward area and managed to get a "Not enough room for Rope" message once, then again after leaving and re-entering, but not again - I'd already gotten the rope that was there but my inventory was full so I don't know if it would actually give you extra ropes (though I've only managed to find 2 ropes out of 3 rope usage locations).

EDIT: I think now I've finished all the quests possible. Really liking the world so far. This happened, though:

You can't get any keys but Snowman yet.

I'll have to test the rats thing you mentioned - that's not supposed to happen! Should be easily fixable with a couple specials, though - there's a variable the game uses for that specific quest, so I could just have it detect if you are in the wrong area and not give you points for rat kills.

Shame about the artifact axe... XD That's one argument against grinding in that area. If you grind in the Precipitous Precipices or Gelid Grove, you can pick up mad loot from the miniboss enemies.

So far, you can get a total of 20 Upgrades. Did you find Curaga and Kinyova both? Kinyova is a bit more secret. Both of them have quests you're not supposed to be able to complete the normal way, so that's a thing for testers to keep an eye out for - if you complete the quest when you shouldn't, I need to know.

With the rope thing, explain the timeline in more detail - did you get the "Not enough room" message the first time after already getting the rope? Was the rope visible on the ground? And then you tried it again and got the message, and a third time you didn't?
I'll play around with it - there may be some bug regarding checking if your inventory is full before checking if the rope still exists or something.

The Punch in the trees is a bug - that was one of the first levels I made, so I hadn't quite figured out how to keep little holes like that from popping up.

I'd found Curaga, but not Kinyova yet. I ended up save-cheating myself over the wall to get the axe . With the rope thing, I got it fine the first time and left and came back later - it looks like if my inventory is full and I step where the rope should be, I get the "Not enough room" message, but if it's not full nothing happens (only works once per map reload).

I found Kinyova and now and have all 20 upgrades possible, but the messages I got when talking to him were a little weird (I was already level 34 and had maxed Stoneskin and Gladiator when I met him):
Kinyova's Hideout
Got Present.
(32/99 Presents found)
(0/20 Levels earned)
(19/20 Levels earned)
(20/20 Levels earned)
Got Ruined Axe.
Objective Point awarded!
Return to the halls of Mastery
(0/1 Talents mastered)
(99/1 Talents mastered)
(100/1 Talents mastered)
Got Crushing Axe.

Not sure how fixable that is, though. Additionally, the "find both R" hint was cut off and had the top of a bit of text showing from off the bottom of the screen, but that might be intentional.

The weird text when talking to him isn't really fixable; something like that happens whenever a quest variable is changed. To make his quests work, I have it set variable number 100 (the variable it uses to keep track of monsters killed for both of his quests) to one less than the required number for his usual quests, and then set it to the required number if you've met the qualifications. You may notice a similar thing when you get many of the presents; there will be 21 extra presents when I'm done, which I am accomplishing by having 2 presents tagged 0-20; when you get the first one, it stores that you got it in a separate variable and resets the normal present variable. So you'll see the text "(31/99 presents collected) (30/99 presents collected)." The number it shows is the number of present variables that are set to 1, not the number of presents you have on hand.

The cut off text was on purpose. You can't get it yet, but the Guru's speech when you get the last talent has something similar. I plan on rewriting the Lectionary (the thing that you read with Literacy) as sort of a textual commentary on my world; I definitely intend to put at least one such tease in there too.

Hehehe, I found the problem with that treasure chest. I forgot to tag that treasure chest, so it had tag 0, which is the same as the one in the Storage Cabin in Einsburg. So after you opened the Storage Cabin chest, it thought you'd opened that other one too.

Also, the rope text bug does not happen only once per map load; it appears that way because if a message is exactly the same as the most recent message, it won't display it until a timer has elapsed. So if you stand on the empty spot where the rope was, it'll keep adding "No room for Rope!" messages every few seconds.

Not only did I figure out a solution to the cellar rat bug, but I also figured out that I can change the number of rats you need to kill! In future releases, the cellar will have 25 rats instead of the usual 17. Yay, difficulty increase!

Some of the areas, Perilous Pass and Sankyo in particular, have rather high densities of enemies which I assume is meant to make them more difficult, but honestly they feel more annoying than anything. It's especially so considering you're intended to rush through them way before you're at a place where you can fend them off. I'm pretty sure my rather lucky parka drop was the only reason I could survive through them as I did, which kind of shows how much of a spike in difficulty they can be.

I'm impressed with this world on a technical level but the balance is in need of fine-tuning. I don't mind steep difficulty curves but there is a point where it just becomes not fun.

Understandable. Actually, one of the first things I did after this release was to finish Sankyo; in addition to having buildings, it also has fewer enemies, and you can run around among the buildings to keep away. I also noticed in my own playtesting that Perilous Pass is really hard unless you Restoration-spam, so I'll probably be downtuning that a tad. Thanks for your input.
