Monthly Merge 16: Minion merge
Deadline: August 28th

Before you delve deeper into world building, think about what the word "minions" mean.

Here is one deffinition:

A follower or underling of a powerful person, esp. a servile or unimportant one.

I think the rest should be pretty obvious.

Edit: Hold on a sec, just got the description from Hammered

"This month it's Minion time! I'm sure that by now most of you have seen either Despicable Me or its sequel or both, which means you have seen lots and lots of minions, but a minion is not a species, it is an underling helper.

For this merge, you may incorporate as many minions as you want, but you need to have at least one. Your minion(s) must be used to help the player in some way. Now there is at least one clearly minion type character in the game, but You don't have to use him, any creature that can do anything that would be of help in accomplishing whatever you want the player to do will both fulfill the definition of minion and and the sole requirement for this merge."

THE CONTEST

When this world merge is released,players will vote on which level best implements the minion theme, – who most cleverly used this theme.
The winning levels get their builder 150 Prize Points (75 for 2nd place, 30 for 3rd place).
(Prize points meaning yerfbucks)

Rules:

Special rules for world builders.

1.Email me what keychain(s) you put in your level(s).
2.You are allowed to use Dr Lunatic Supreme With Cheese 8.0d

And that's about it.

Basic Rules Of All Monthly Merges:

1> You may use no more than 50 tiles. Make sure you use “Delete Unused Tiles” after you’re done, to keep it trimmed down.
2> No more than 5 custom sounds.
3> No more than 10 custom items.
4> Do not use Tile Var specials unless you REALLY know what you're doing with them, and you make sure they never have a value lower than 800.
5> If you want to use a global variable, email me and ask first. I will give out one per person, first come first serve. More than one may be granted if it seems clear they won’t all be used up.
6> You may not modify any original items - you must make your own copies of them if you want modified versions.
7> Make sure any custom items you make have Rarity of 0 (so they won't drop randomly from monsters in other peoples’ levels).
8> Your level filename must be “merge16XXX.dlw” where XXX is a 3 letter/number code of your own devising. Using your initials is not recommended!
9> Any extra files your level uses, like text files or images, must be named “merge16XXX_YY.txt” (or .bmp or whatever it is), where XXX again is your special code, and YY can be anything that is useful for you, like for example “merge16MH1_zabzab.txt”. Make sure you use the same special code everywhere. Since your extra files will be visible to the end-user, make sure your special code doesn't identify you in any way!
10> Submit your level by emailing it and any needed files (in a zip file, preferably, but it’s okay otherwise too) to reactor@ninjadoggyinc.com
11> Your level has to work perfectly. I may fix problems, but probably not, and if a level doesn’t work, I will not include it in the merge.
12> You may resubmit your level as many times as you want before the deadline. Whichever version I get last, but before the deadline, is the one that goes in.
13> You get most of a few weeks to build up your level.
14> Make your level as the 2nd (and 3rd) levels in a world – add it to an empty hub. Your hub doesn’t HAVE to be empty, it can have whatever you want, but I’m just going to throw it away, so don’t spend a long time on it!
15> Don’t forget to set the Author on your world, so I know who made it!
16> Remember, and this always applies to any add-on: ANY custom song, text, or graphics must be your own creation. You may not take someone else’s work.
17> You may not include a Loonykey.
19> Let me know in your email where the keychains are, or how they’re gotten!
20> Misspellings and bad grammar will most likely be corrected when I catch them, so don’t put any in on purpose! Also, please try not to put any in on accident. It’s a pain to fix.

Yeah, I'm beggining to doubt myself. And about that strict deadline, I was planning for the new beggining of the MM series to happen in a very monthly fasion thus the strict deadlines. I am also wondering whether anybody goes to Hamumu anymore. The traffic really tuned down over the past years. I am also wondered what happened to some of "Jamul's Incredible Fans" like Mark Stevens, Lisa Keck, WTG and all those people. WTG is a really unknown dissapearence especially.

All of them disappeared long ago, with WTG being the last to vanish. Honestly, the fact that Jamul is all but gone from this site means it's likely going to fade away before long. We need something big if we are to save this site from being a collection of mafia games between ever more inactive players...

Something big... hmm... I don't actually know the answer to that.
One tactic would be to have a Hamumu game on the Humble Indie Bundle, but I very well doubt that will happen.

You should also remember that after any website peaks, the percentage of actual users signing up dwindles in comparison to the number of spam bots and similar things.

The majority of new members these days are going to be failed spam bots that never end up posting. Maybe they didn't come here to spam, but to do something else?... Truly sinister, I'm sure.
Then you have the successful spambots that get posts out on the forum, they are usually dealt with within a day or two.
Then, last but not least, you have actual members.


Anyway, I'm going to try to whip together a level for this, even though it seems everyone's despaired it as a failure due to timecrunching. The concept of the world is one that has always been one of the most interesting to me, but it's also one of the more technically complicated ideas depending on how you plan on going about it.

Darn it! If we go on like this the monthly merge series will be beyond repair!!!
I'll have one last and final deadline for Minion Merge, it's 30th of September.
What's going on here? There are over 4000 members here and out of all of them, 7 stay active a day at the most! And these unsympathetic spambots! Don't they have any shame at all, taking away spotlight from Hamumu onto their own websites. I am running out of ideas of ways to keep this show on the road!!!!!

One, they are bots, they don't have feelings. Two, I did say MONTHLY merges won't be possible anymore, though general merges I suspect could be pulled off. (If we could get the PSW passed on, that would be great) I can't contribute for another week and a bit, but I could put a bit of time into making a level or two for a general merge when I get back. It'd be better if we had a looser theme though, minions is hard to be creative with...

No, please don't make a level, what use will it be if we only have 2 people participating. What's a PSW by the way?

I would build again if it wasn't beyond painful to create my own art - I am talking about the tools available for working with the color palette - not the amount of work it takes to create it.

So, how's everybody doing?

I recently recieved some levels from:

Clancy Vierusia : 2
Harley : 1
REACTOR (me) : 1
Nim Vier: 1

Altogether: 5 levels

I'm not sure what your opinion about it is, but I would say it looks like this Monthy Merge series might not be dead afterall.

I will try to cobble together a level or two. The concept of minions has always been interesting to me. Getting back into the editor might be fun.
