Default Hurricane Frances

Hi Everyone. Hurricane Frances came through Florida over the weekend. She caused a lot of damage. My home was a little damaged, but, Thank God my family and I are all right. We were so scared. Now we have to worry about Hurricane Ivan.

It's incredible how much the east coast (especially FL) has suffered from weather in the past few months! Most people don't even know how Gaston effected Richmond, VA where I live. Last week the system hovered and swirled over the city during peak travel time and dumped more than 10 inches of rain in a short time causing flash flooding that carried off cars like toy boats. The video coverage of cars being swept away and rescues was scary. Eight people died.
I hope Ivan loses steam and goes West!

I just moved to Florida from San Diego last year. We've had more rain so far in the month of September than San Diego gets in 5 years. The lake I live on is up over the sea wall and in my back yard, although it has receded about a foot from its highest point. I just finally got all the stuff in the yard picked up, but I don't know if the city will even get by to pick up the fallen branches before Hurricane Ivan shows up.

Default Hurricane Frances

I'm sorry Lisa. I know the damage these storms can cause. Are you OK?

I think what happened in the russian school was MUCH worse than the hurricane.

I was only inconvenienced for a few hours and got really wet, but I'm fine. The rescues by human chains in the rushing water, and other rescues, won't leave my mind. One of the people doing the rescuing died.
I agree what happened in Russia was terrible! It is so sad! Why can't we all just get along? And even if we can't get along, do we have to take it out on children?
The only positive I can get from that is if all the good people will try to do good for others, we can have a positive influence on our little worlds. Maybe it can be like that movie with Haley Joe Osment. I can't think of the name of it, can anyone else?

I am learning about hurricanes in science.
Stats on Cat.5 Hurricanes
Only 22 in past 25 years
10 sustained winds for 24 hours
5 sustained c5 winds for 2-3 days
2 sustained winds for3+ days.

I'm glad I dont live in FL.
