Default A discussion of banning

I thought Redbone was banned? :? Congrats to him and Boyd on 2 great worlds! I cannot figure out how to get to the last level in B vs Dr. L. The one surrounded by the green barrels. Any hints?

Redbone is banned from the forums. That doesn't mean that he cannot build worlds and submit them.

In his case, he was fond of publishing registration keys.

One aspect of rule 8 is repeatedly violating the rules. In this case, rule 6.

Dark Lord Farley was banned for violation of rules 1, 8, 10, and 10b. Just for the record here, the spam mentioned in the rules refers to advertising, not random nonsense.

Some games upgrade by themselves when you put in a "registration key" or "code". I think all of Hamumu's games don't do this, but JJSoft (producer of the Mage Bros. and other games, the former being the game Redbone tried giving registration coes for) and other companies have registration code. When you upgrade your demo to the full version by paying them money, then you will get an email (or at least that's what I got one time) with the registration code. So not paying for the game and getting the code from someone else it is the same as getting it free.

Okay but I thought everyone that paid and got a reg key, recieved a different code per paid person. Guess not.

Edit: That recieved code would only work for that one copy of the game.

It depends on the game itself and the method used to verify it. Some games just use a certain set of codes, that work on any system, while some generate a rather large number that should be unique to each computer, and you have to send that number in when you pay for the game, and then they give you the code unique to your computer to register. Though, even with that method, there are people to develop programs that have figured out the system the game uses, which you can use to get the needed registration key.

If you know how, it can be quite simple to find these programs online, though sites like those tend to be infested with porn ads, loaded with viruses, etc... Can be quite nasty.

I prefer to support the developers of games that I enjoy enough to actually want a full version of.

Going off topic even more - it appears some people on eBay had some of the code-generating programs (avoiding the actual name of the programs) and was selling codes on eBay, but making themselves look legitimate - they acted more or less like they were legally selling them. Mostly, a selection of the games from sites like www.reflexive.com and perhaps some others. Except instead of the $20 or so you'd pay, they were about $4. After winning, they'd send a link to the game demo, and then give you instructions to get the product ID needed for them to generate the registration key. (I know this, because my aunt bought one of them - she didn't know any better, thought it was a good deal and was talking about it. I looked at the listing, and it did seem legit at first glance - to those who wouldn't know any better really. I had to correct her, telling her that it wasn't a legit purchase. She tries. She really does, but she has a lot to learn yet...) Back to the sellers - someone caught on now - all the people who were selling these codes are no longer members on eBay anymore. =P That's pretty brazen to do though, selling illegal keys right on eBay. Some people...

Ok, if you go to the UK ebay, you can find fake pokemon games, Pokemon Chaos Black and (I haven't seen this one) Skull White. What's funnier, is on the back picture of Chaos Black, there's pictures from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and on the front picture there is Chaos, the character from Sonic. I dunno if nintendo shut these people down yet or not (I looked at it a week or two ago or something), but I was amazed that six or so people had bidded when I looked.
